Busy with the many commitments and the preparation for the participation to the next Eurovision Song Contest (as it is known, they will be directly in the finale on May 23 in Vienna with a version of “Grande Amore”, the song with which they triumphed in Sanremo, shortened to 3 minutes), Il Volo found the time to grant Eurofestival News an interview, talking about their adjustment path toward the event.
EN: Did you decide before Sanremo, that in case of victory you would have accepted the Eurovision or was it a choice made during the evenings of the contest?
IL VOLO: To represent Italy at the Eurovision has always been one of our objectives.
EN: Is the Eurovision an absolute novelty for you or have you memories of the contest? Did you already watch the past editions? And if so, what do you think?
IL VOLO: we have always followed the Eurovision but since we had the confirmation of our participation we gathered information about it and we looked back at all that happened in the past years. We liked a lot Conchita Wurst’s performance.
EN: Did ever occur to you to hear about Eurovision in your business trips abroad?
IL VOLO: Yes, in our European trips we have always heard of Eurovision and to us taking part to this event will be the best way to go back after a couple of years to the European market.
EN: How does it feel like to come on stage as a favourite?
IL VOLO: We are happy to be among the favourites but we will go with the spirit of the competition, but above all we will go there to have fun and get the people who listen to be touched.
EN: your music genre has a great success abroad, but the Eurovision is a festival linked more to an easy to consume pop. What are your expectations?
IL VOLO: our goal since forever has always been to get people to know this music genre, but above all to get into the IPods of the people of our own age. Continue reading
