On May 28, 2011 Il Volo returns to the Arena di Verona (Italy) after a year of their last performance there as ‘Il Trio’ to perform at the Wind Music Awards 2011. The WMA is a musical award show to reward Italian artists for their work considering the last year and according to the FIMI classification. They received a Gold Disc for the Album “Il Volo”, which sold more than 30.000 copies.
Il Volo on Istituto Rizzoli
The ‘tre tenorini’ that conform Il Volo, Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble put on the doctors coats and along with the members of the Ansabbio Association have visited the young patients recovering at the Rizzoli Institute in Bologna. It has been one of the many acts of the “star-therapy” organised by “Doctor Smile”, the physiotherapist Cirrone Dario, president of Ansabbio, which in the past 15 years has promoted many visits of this nature. “I couldn’t believe when Giampiero Malena, manager of many artists, called me to propose me the presence of the three stars in favor of the little patients” told Cirrone. To greet the three, many doctors of the Rizzoli, and the most exciting moment was when the young tenors sang “O Sole Mio” and “Un Amore cosí grande” specially dedicated to the children. Barone, Boschetto and Ginoble left to receive the “Premio per la musica” in Verona. Their debut album was ranked in the 10th place of the Best Sellers charts in the United States. The producer of the trio, Michele Torpedini, – has referred Cirrone – has guaranteed the presence of the group in the next Natale concert. (Ansabbio, May 28, 2014)

On May 19, 2011 the Italian trio Il Volo enchanted the American Idol audience. Enjoy this photo gallery with images captured from the video.
The Billboard had announced: “It’s a long way from Italian TV to ‘American Idol’. But when they take the ‘Idol’ stage on May 19, the members of teenage tenor act Il Volo will have made that trek in just two years”. And, after the astonishing performance at the Nokia Theatre Los Angeles, CBS News wrote that they “brought the house down.”
And it is true! After realising the International Edition of their first album, Il Volo is on United States taking the hearts by storm. On Thursday night – May 19, 2011 – Piero Barone, Gianluca Ginoble and Ignazio Boschetto enchanted the audience of the talent show American Idol, receiving a standing ovation even of the jury. They sang the Neapolitan classic O Sole Mio directly to the judges – Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler – and, although few people could understand the lyrics, it was a huge success.
On the video we can see the surprised faces of the finalists of American Idol: Lauren Alaina, Haley Reinhart and Scotty McCreery.
