On January 12, 2010, Haiti was devastated by a huge earthquake (magnitude 7) with the epicenter in a very populated region, affecting about three million people. An unprecedented disaster that mobilized the solidarity of the whole world. The producer Quincy Jones – responsible for the original “We Are the World”, where the song by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie made the world look to Africa and help in a very serious situation of famine and poverty -, was the executive producer along with Lionel Richie of the reedition of the song, recorded by many famous artists, in benefit of Haiti.
Il Volo was invited by Quincy Jones to sing on “We Are The World: 25 for Haiti” along with international artists like Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Tony Bennett, Barbra Streisand, Miley Cyrus, Enrique Iglesias, Toni Braxton, Justin Bieber among others.
The song was recorded in record time by almost eighty artists on February 1, 2010 at the Jim Henson Studios in Hollywood, California, and the single was released during the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics on February 12, 2010.
